Obama Pardoning Turkey

President Barack Obama is being targeted by some on the right for being soft on crime after pardoning a Turkey yesterday.  While this was the first pardon of his short presidency some worry that it sets a dangerous precedent.  How after all, they wonder, will he stand up to terrorists when he can’t even take down common poultry.

Well I scored 10 out of 50, not very hardcore at all.  I guess thats to be expected as I dont think of myself as atheist.  Maybe Summer will score higher.

Sleater-Kinney Song Stuck in my head

Could do worse. Sleater-Kinney is/was an amazing band that has been broken up now for the past two years. This weekend I was listening to some of their stuff and now this song is stuck in my head. Normally listening to it over and over again gets it out but that hasn’t worked. So I’m trying to spread the joy and maybe that will help.

• Obama Quits his Church. I’m disappointed that Obama would quit the church where he was married and where his daughters were baptized for political expediency.
• 5 Most Badass Presidents of All Time. I found this while reading 6 Most Badass Stunts Ever Pulled in the Name of Science. Read them both their awesome. (h/t Skepchick).
• Blog carnival for progressive Christians, read more at Fetch me my Axe. We wholly support progressive religions, Christian or otherwise, so looking forward to reading some good posts.
• Catholicism, leading the fight for equality for women.
• More “progress” in Iraq. Sunnis have withdrawn from the Iraqi government AGAIN after Maliki rejected their entire list of nominated ministers.
• We all like to give Congress a hard time but Crooks and Liars points out one thing they have done perfectly right, Social Security. So I’m joining them in giving Pelosi a nice big round of applause for keeping the Republicans from killing an important program.
• Really with the popular vote totals so close can we stop talking about them and focus on the only thing that actually counts, delegate count. Isn’t this like trying to argue who won the super bowl based on rushing yards and not the final score?

Happy Monday morning everyone. I’m feeling better and I’m ready to be productive at work tomorrow (I’m writing this Sunday afternoon). Chris Matthews Grills Right Winger on Talking Points

The standard formula when a right winger appears on one of these shows is to blindly repeat the parties talking points. If questioned or whenever the other side talks just keep repeating the same points louder and louder until you win. Well, Chris Matthews finally calls one of them on it and its quite fun to watch. I hope everyone had a good Mothers Day weekend. It went really well at our house except pretty much everyone was sick at some point. There seems to be some little bug going around that lasts a couple days. At least I’m hoping thats all the longer it lasts because the weather is getting nicer and I want to stop being sick til next winter.

Well it’s Monday morning so here is some light news and humor to start your week out right.

The Republican’s started off Mother’s Day weekend by voting against Mothers Day. This isn’t really funny, its just sick. And you all thought that Republicans were the family values party. lol (final vote results here)

This is really cool and not as geeky as it sounds initially. There is a new game Fold It that makes protein folding competitive and fun. As you work through the levels you are taught the basics just like any other problem solving game. The game requires no science knowledge as it relies on intuitive thinking and problem solving skills. What makes this really cool is that as you advance you have the potential to make actual scientific discoveries as you work on unsolved proteins. (h/t Richard Dawkins)

A group known as “The Resistance“, which is an incestuous crossbreed of conspiracy theorists and Christian fundamentalism, has launched a boycott of Starbucks over its new Logo which shows a topless mermaid. The Resistance also supports Ron Paul. I know thats obvious from the description of the group but I wanted to point that out anyhow.

I just started watching video’s from there last week and it is simply AMAZING. p.s. this is satire just like the creation museum. You didn’t seriously believe that a “museum” that features man and dinosaur living together was serious. Suckers! You all just fell for a classic example of Poe’s Law.

If we don’t stop the spread of creationism this is the kind of “science” that our children will be taught. We recently got lucky in Florida but we can’t count on luck when our children’s education is at risk.
