I went into the last Democratic debate narrowly supporting Obama, it was close but I was in his camp. I watched the debate and at the end was once again questioning my decision. Hillary came across as more intelligent, more articulate, having a better grasp of the issues, and being better prepared to handle them, in my opinion.
Barack, while an eloquent speaker in his own right, did not hold a candle to her. I was surprised (somewhat) when all of the pundits were declaring it at best a very slight edge to Hillary and mostly a draw with Obama scoring more important points. WTF?? Did I get to see the same debate as everyone else? The only time that I saw Hillary perhaps come across in a lesser light was when she made the zeroxing crack, which I found funny.
Apparently I was the only one who thought so, and William he agreed with me.
I have been insanely busy with my day job, my family, and a million other things so keeping a handle on all things political has been a task that has slipped a bit for me. I watched every thing I could on all of the news channels, even FOX! The press seemed to be almost fawning over Obama, even Keith Olberman whose opinion nearly always mirrors my own.
Why was this happening? Obama is surging ahead and I couldn’t put a finger on the reason other than the fact that voters are being bombarded with messages from pundits and “neutral” journalists, that Obama is the golden boy. His campaign isn’t any more well run than Clinton’s and his is pretty snarky and negative at times. He doesn’t come across as being entirely knowledgeable and prepared, and he hasn’t made any real changes recently that would account for such a huge upswing.
I looked into the reason that I had thrown my support his way after Kucinich dropped out, for me it was the Kyl/Lieberman amendment that Clinton voted for, or was it? Perhaps I have let myself be sold by the honey sweet rhetoric pouring forth from the talking heads. Maybe I am being controlled by the media?
I watched Saturday Night Live last night and loved the Weekend Update with Tina Fey commenting on the most important women’s issues at the moment. Crooks and Liars has it posted here. I found that the part regarding Hillary was spot on. Watch it, listen closely to your news sources, and question if you are getting honest, unbiased reporting and if you are indeed making your decision based on who you think would be the best president or not. That’s what I am doing today, I’ll let you know how it turns out for me. Let me know what you think.

Please let me know what you come out with. I liked Kucinich, who, while a politician in some of the worst meanings of the word, still pushed for all that I hold dear in my liberal Christian heart.
Next on my hit list was Edwards, who didn’t get in either for many of the same reason, not the least of which is he’s small and people pass him up for all the same prejudiced reasons. And the media too made him look bad on purpose. But at least they let him debate, which they didn’t with Dennis.
Now, we have left Clinton and Obama. Should I vote for Clinton, who exhibited one too many decisions in support of Bush’s policies or one who had far less of a track record while not saying as many silly things a liberal can’t ever agree with? A difficult decision. Essentially, it’s choose the moderate/centrist or choose the one I know little about. A bird in the hand…
Well, I’m going Obama. Whether it’s the media controlling my perception or just her voting record on hot button issues I hold important, Ms. Clinton has proved herself unreliable and not a liberal. And I truly believe thoughtful, well-reasoned liberal policies are the only way this country can be saved.
I hope and pray Obama’s lack of experience doesn’t ruin our country either through disagreements with congress (Carter) or doing totally inept things at home or in foreign affairs. I’m crossing my fingers and hoping he isn’t a blunder that ruins it for liberals for all time. Because if he does blunder, whether he’s acting like a liberal, moderate or conservative, he will be labeled as a liberal anyway by the media.
Geesh, where are the spirits of our founding “fathers” when we need them?

I too liked Kucinich and for a brief moment Edwards. The more the craziness goes on in the media for Obama the more I lean toward Clinton. Perhaps it’s an instinctual distrust for all things MSM. I just have such a hard time with the almost complete dismissal of Hillary as a candidate. They are acting as if it was ridiculous to think of her seriously assuming the presidency.
At the moment I remain mostly undecided. Obama is a more liberal candidate overall on the issues by a bit, Hillary has sided with Bush a little too much for comfort, although her votes have to be taken in the context of what her constituents were supporting at the time, something that is overlooked a lot when discussing records.
I’m perhaps a smidge pro Hillary and Obama is looking a little smarmy to me at the moment. I think that he is adopting an air of arrogance that makes me a little uncomfortable. What could be worse than an arrogant unprepared leader? That’s what we’ve had with Bush.
