Yesterday we saw the final votes cast in one of the most amazing and historic primary campaigns in our nations history. I don’t need to go into all the many reasons why this year has been one that our grandchildren will learn about in school. Two of those reasons are painfully obvious just by looking at our top candidates.

Even though Clinton and Obama stayed practically tied in every measurement in the end there is a clear winner. I have truthfully said this whole time that I would fully support any of our top 3 for president and I think that most Democrats feel the same way. So even though I threw my support behind Obama a while back, today is the first day that we can say that Barack Obama is the presumptive Democratic nominee.

Hold on to your pants, now its going to really get interesting. Watch these two give their speeches last night. Obama gives a great speech and I think Hillary does as well. Some may have wanted something different from her but I think her supporters are all happy. I know I am.

I highly doubt that, but this is what he said today to a crowd in Milbank, SD. I’m not reading too much into it but it’s an interesting thing to hear with all the rumors and speculation about Hillary’s campaign.

“I want to say also that this may be the last day I’m ever involved in a campaign of this kind. I thought I was out of politics, ’til Hillary decided to run. But it has been, one of the greatest honors of my life to go around and campaign for her for president,” said Clinton as he began his speech.

Political Radar

Anyhow, I just wanted to post that and see how it plays out over the next few weeks. No matter what Hillary decides to do I will support her decision. Even though I decided to back Obama I have a ton of respect for the Clinton’s. I think that she would make an excellent president (or VP) and I hope that her supporters are mature enough to realize that no matter what the last thing our nation needs right now is 4 more years of failed conservative policies.

I will go on record and say that I can’t see Hillary dropping out today with Montana and South Dakota voting tomorrow. After those voters opinions are counted and weighed I can see her dropping out and supporting Obama.

Let me know what, if anything, you think this means.

This is a hard post for me to write because from the very beginning I was a strong Clinton supporter. I proudly defended her to all my friends, readers, and family. I made the arguments that her experience, positions, and long history of fighting for health care, working class families, and womens rights make her an excellent Democratic nominee. As recently as last month I felt compelled to write about how she should not drop out despite the media’s incessant calls for it.

Today I am not backing off of those positions, nor am I ever going to suggest that any candidate should bow to pressure to drop out of the race. Hillary has earned the right to campaign and pursue the presidency all the way to the convention if that is her choice. If the blogs or media or whoever has a problem with that so what.

However I have been gradually convinced that despite Hillary’s many many positives Obama is the better candidate to receive the parties nomination. This decision isn’t based upon policies or experience as I still feel that Clinton wins in those categories. Instead its based upon something much simpler but vastly more important. Character.

I’m not necessarily talking about personal character as I still strongly feel that both candidates have impeccably strong characters. Instead I am referring to the character of their campaigns and how they affect the progressive movement. I have always felt that no movement can ever be about one single battle and the decision has to be not who can be elected but who can help build the progressive movement. Obama’s campaign is the clear winner by that criteria.

It also does not help that in order to sell the myth of “electability” Clinton consistently works to ostracize parts of the Democratic party. 4 or 8 years in the White House will not be enough time to fix the damage caused by George Bush. So to achieve the long term comprehensive success the progressive movement needs to fix this nation we need to bring liberals, progressives, and moderates together. Sorry Hillary but statements like this are exactly what we don’t need.

“I have a much broader base to build a winning coalition on,” she said in an interview with USA TODAY. As evidence, Clinton cited an Associated Press article “that found how Sen. Obama’s support among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again, and how whites in both states who had not completed college were supporting me”

(h/t Bloggernista)

So today, for these reasons and many others, I am formally announcing my support for Barack Obama. At this point we will be moving on and focusing on the general election against serial flip-flopper John McCain. I wish Hillary Clinton the best of luck and will always support her as she will no doubt continue fighting for the progressive ideals she has devoted her life to.

No matter if Clinton or Obama gets the nomination I have firmly decided on who gets my vote for most entertaining candidate. No its not either of them, though both have had their moments. Hillary drinking shots and Obama’s bowling come to mind right away. It’s not Ron Paul even though he is still by far the most bat shit insane candidate. Nope, Mike Gravel has provided the most entertainment by a long shot. I will admit that Ron Paul’s balloon was pretty funny though.

So here is a small collection of my favorite Mike Gravel video’s. The first one is the most recent and is the one that tipped the scale for me.

Mike Gravel has some good music video’s as well.

But mostly Mike Gravel is just weird and disturbing.

So what are your guys favorite Mike Gravel video’s? There have been a lot of them and I’m sure that I have missed some of the better ones. If you have a favorite that I missed please post a link in the comments below. Thanks

I just wanted to pass on a campaign email I received for Jim Slattery (D-KS). As I wrote about the other Day JIm Slattery has officially launched his Senate bid for Pat Roberts seat. At WWJV4 we will be supporting Slattery as much as possible so look for more campaign announcements and news.

Dear Friend,

Yesterday I announced my candidacy for the United States Senate. It was an honor to have our governor, Kathleen Sebelius, introduce me and come out strong in support of my campaign. To view the video of my announcement click on this link: Slattery Announcement.

Unfortunately, Pat Roberts chose to open his campaign by airing a negative radio ad in which he made cheap personal attacks. This is a clear sign he is worried about the competitive campaign I intend to run. Pat Roberts has no desire to take responsibility for the breathtaking incompetence and indifference of our political leadership in Washington, D.C.

I am determined to focus on the issues that truly affect Kansans. Our country’s economy is unstable, gas prices are soaring, and we are engaged in a needless war in Iraq.

I need your help now and through November to bring Kansas common-sense back to the United States Senate. There are three ways you can help:

1. Join my E-mail List. You can do so by visiting my website www.slatteryforsenate.com

2. Make a monetary donation. The reality of modern politics is that my campaign will need money to respond to Pat Roberts’ negative ads. Any amount you can give is valuable and appreciated. Donate online now by clicking here: Contribute!

3. Forward this e-mail to five friends. Invite them to view my announcement and join our campaign.

Rarely is the contrast on the key issues as clear as it is between Pat Roberts and myself. I look forward to seeing you in person and hearing your ideas as I campaign across the state in the coming months!

Thanks for your friendship,

Signature
Jim Slattery

I have to say that while I am excited about the Slattery campaign I am a little concerned about this email. There were several errors, broken links, and usability problems and overall it feels rushed. I’m sure that this is just part of the growing pains of a new campaign so they get a pass with this one.

I strongly recommend getting as involved with this campaign as possible because Jim Slattery is the type of politiican that can bring the needed changes to both Kansas and Washington. If you live outside Kansas then get involved in your local politics. Democrats cannot afford to sit back and wait for someone else to make the needed changes anymore.

Thanks,
William ~ WWJV4.com

Jim Slattery has officially launched his campaign to seek the US Senate position currently occupied by Republican Pat Roberts. I feel really good about Jim Slattery. He has a good record and strong support here in Kansas and I strongly believe that he has a chance to beat Roberts. It has been a long time since Kansas sent a Democratic Senator and now is absolutely the right time to do so.

Hillary won Pennsylvania yesterday by 10 points, brining in over 200,000 votes. This of course just goes to verify that she is still a viable candidate no matter what all the anti-Clinton liberal blogs say. Since I have no time today I just wanted to post a question …

If Hillary is tearing apart the Democratic party to the point where only Obama can hold us together why is Hillary getting substantially more votes? Also, if the relatively mild attacks that Hillary is throwing at Obama is enough to beat him so soundly what chance does he have against the Republicans?

Anyhow, here is a good post by Kate Harding from Shakesville that does a good job of outlining some reasons why I still think Clinton is just as good (or better) than Obama.

A couple liberal blogs are reporting that one of the guys in an ad Hillary ran in Pennsylvania actually voted in NEW JERSEY! The impostor shows up around 20 seconds in and says “the good people of Pennsylvania deserve a lot better than what Barack Obama said”. Watch Clinton destroy the Democratic party with her lies and girl cooties.

I guess it is only fair to point out the ad never makes any untrue claims nor does it go into the guys history at all. Its just a short statement mixed in with several others. In his quote he doesn’t say anything untrue or deceptive and never implies that he is from Pennsylvania. I Should also point out that while he voted in New Jersey he lives in Pennsylvania now and will be voting in Pennsylvania this November.

So I guess there isn’t really much of a story here after all. Sorry to waste your time. I’ll just join in with the other anti-Hillary liberal blogs in attacking her for tearing apart the Democratic party. Pay no attention to our blatant hypocrisy as we do exactly the same thing ourselves. Can’t help wondering what the response would have been from these blogs if it had been an Obama ad in question.
